CONNOISSEUR CLUB. A TUTORED TRAPPIST TASTING.

(Featuring a conducted tasting of Trappist beers in both Keg & Cask, and a discussion of the differences between Trappist & Abbeye ales. This talk will be hosted by Peter Grady from Mount St Bernard`s abbey`s, brewery. (Tynt Meadow )

An introduction.

Whilst planning and researching this event, We began to think about some of the incredible stories that we have both heard, and read, about various beers over the last 25 years. In a recent, beer fueled discussion, we found ourselves wondering, just which beers might have had the most written about them?

Surely Guinness must rate quite highly, if for no other reason than that the brewery has existed since 1759. And with that in mind, perhaps it could be the world`s oldest brewery, Weihenstephan? In operation since 1040.

And how many times has Bass Pale Ale featured as a perennial, and much loved question in pub quizzes up and down the land?

Certainly, in the modern era of professional beer writers, amateur bloggers, and, as Dr Georg Kristan would say, `Beer enthusiasts!` logging on to any number of forums and rating sites, one beer that must be a serious contender for most column inches is Westvletren 12.

Over the years this beer has somehow developed an almost mythical reputation.

Decide for yourself!

On Thursday the 27th of August, as well as Three Rules in keg and Tynt Meadow Blond served direct from the cask, samples of Westvletren 8, Blond Ale, and Westvletren 12, a quadrupel, sometimes referred to as a Flemish Burgundy will be offered for your appraisel. These pours are included in your ticket price.

Contrast & compare!

Other Belgian Trappist beer will be available to buy. Hopefully including the following breweries;

Orval, La Trappe & Rochefort. In bottle.

Chimay Tripel and Westmalle Dubbel on tap.

Event timings, etc, etc.

The shop will be open from noon, as usual on Thursday. Doors will be closed to the general public at 18.30. The event will begin at 19.00, until close at 22.00.

We look forward to serving you.

Cheers Chums!
